The Master of Architecture degree program requires that applicants have completed a pre-professional degree in architecture, similar to the pre-professional B.S. Architecture degree that is offered by Temple University. Our Master of Architecture degree program is a 4+2 program. The 4-year BS Arch and 2-year M Arch “when earned sequentially, comprise an accredited professional education.” (more information on accredited degree programs in architecture can be found at: http://www.naab.org.) Admission to the Master of Architecture degree program is competitive and limited to 30 places per year.
Graduate Application Requirements
All applicants to Temple University Graduate programs must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have completed a baccalaureate degree from a college or university whose accreditation is accepted by the University prior to enrollment. More information about Tyler and Temple University Graduate degree requirements can be found at: http://www.temple.edu/tyler/admissions/grad.html
Portfolio Requirements
Applicants must submit a portfolio of their most important and representative design and written work. Portfolios should include architectural work done in academic settings or in practice, and may include work in the visual arts or visual communication. Papers, research, or other materials (preferably dealing with the built environment) are invited as evidence of scholarly, academic, or creative work. Work chosen for inclusion in a portfolio should best represent the applicant’s knowledge, aptitudes, interests, creative ability and experience relative to the discipline of architecture. Include up to 20 images or other items.
Portfolio requirements are available from the Tyler Admissions Office: 215.777.9090 or by email at tylerart@temple.edu.
Graduate transfer credits
A maximum of 9 graduate transfer credits will be accepted, reviewed after 15 credits of the Master of Architecture degree program have been completed and only if a minimum of a B Grade was obtained for the course.
Part-time study
The degree may be taken over two years of full time or four years of part time. Credits are only valid for five years.
Current Temple B. Arch students (Spring 2010 onwards)
Students in the 4th (senior) year of the Temple B. Arch program have the opportunity to apply to the M. Arch program. Acceptance into the M. Arch is not automatic. Students will be accepted on a competitive basis. They will be required to:
• Be in good standing with the University after 4 years of study
• Accept the Temple B.S. Arch after their 4th year of study towards the B. Arch
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for their four years of undergraduate study
• Submit a portfolio of their most important and representative design work
• Submit a statement of intent for study at the Masters level
Because the M. Arch is the final two years of an accredited ‘4+2’ program, Temple Architecture students with the above qualifications are well known the faculty and are not required to take the GRE or TOEFL.
Students will only be admitted to the fall semester. The deadline for applications is January 15th. Online applications instructions can be found at www.temple.edu/grad/admissions/howtoapply.htm.
