All undergraduate students in the Architecture Department begin with the common Architecture Foundation Studies curriculum which comprises the first 2 years of study. The Architecture Foundation is limited to 85 freshmen and 85 sophomore students. All students will be admitted directly to this program and will be identified as architecture majors. University Admissions consults directly with the Tyler Admissions Office in the admission of students. Information about undergraduate admission to the Architecture Department can be found at: www.temple.edu/tyler/admissions/undergraduate.html

 Freshman Admission

Admission to the architecture program is selective. If the student is offered admission into Temple University but not into Architecture and wishes to be considered for admission to architecture, he/she must submit a portfolio of artistic or creative work, as per requirements, procedures and assessment criteria specified. Portfolio requirements are available from the Tyler Admissions Office. Freshman admission is for the fall semester only. Tyler does not accept freshman applicants for the spring semester as the Architecture Foundation Studies program has a strict sequence of classes.

 Intra-university Transfer Admission

Intra-university transfer students are reviewed for admission to Architecture Foundation Studies based on GPA, and availability of space in the program. Admission is selective, and typically limited to those with a 3.0 or higher GPA. While a portfolio is not required, students may wish to submit a portfolio or work to enhance their application. Portfolio requirements are availablefrom the Tyler Admissions Office.

All intra-university transfer students (regardless of the number of credit hours completed) must complete all architecture courses from Architecture Foundation Studies before continuing into the 3rd and 4th year of the B.S. Architecture, B.S. Facility Management or B.S. Architectural Preservation. Students with previous college credits in architecture should submit a portfolio of work that represents previous studio coursework for consideration for advanced standing. Intra-university transfer students can apply for entry to the Architecture Department programs throughout the year, however, the need to fulfill the Architecture Foundation sequence might affect the time at which a student can take Architecture Department courses.  Other Transfer Admission

Admission as a transfer student will be based on GPA and the review of the academic credentials. Admission is competitive. Typically, only students with a 3.0 are considered. Transfer students from other institutions may be admitted to Temple’s architecture program with advanced standing. Placement in is based upon prior college level architectural education, as represented in a portfolio, not merely the number of credits earned at another institution. In order to be considered for advanced standing beyond the first year, transfer students must submit a portfolio of work that represents studio coursework completed at other institutions. Portfolio requirements are available from the Tyler Admissions Office: 215.777.9090 or by email at tylerart@temple.edu.
