All students in the B.S. Arch Degree Program (years 3 & 4) and M.Arch Degree Program are expected to have a computer with software to carry out architecture coursework. Computers are ubiquitous in architectural practice and education, and are an essential tool for an architecture student. From the teaching of new technologies in rapid-prototyping, environmental analysis and virtual visualization to the methods by which we research and obtain information, our field employs computers at every level of investigation and articulation.
The Architecture Department remains agnostic towards computational platforms (from Windows to OSX and Linux), and, in understanding the costs associated with computer purchases, has been able to secure special offers with several varied computer vendors including Dell, HP, and Apple. These specials offer students discounts on retail prices and meet the specifications required of software employed by the Architecture Department.
If you choose to purchase a machine outside the offers organized by the Architecture Department, please take the following specifications into account when purchasing your machine:
• Processor
• RAM
• Video Card
• Monitor
• Warranty
• Security
